Swimathon 2026!
Have you taken part in the annual Swimathon? The Swimathon is now in its 40th year and the event has been encouraging people to get in the pool and swim for charity! You can take part in a range of distances and as an individual or a team.
For 2026 we had a number of The Flipper Club swimmers, teachers, family and friends taking part. We had team ‘Chilly Willy’s’, the 5 boy strong group of Friday swimmers who individually swam their first 5kms as part of their training for an English Channel relay in 2027. Teacher Jen and her family took on the team 1.5km, her youngest of 7 yrs completed 10 lengths!
This year I took part in a team 5km swim. I have completed the individual triple 5km previously but I have to be honest, the team event was by far the most fun! One of our swimmers was hesitant about joining as she didn’t feel confident as she usually would swim widths in her local pool - we’re so delighted she joined her first swim event as she went on to complete a total of 16 lengths of the pool, two lengths at a time and it is by far her greatest swim achievement - to say we were proud of her and so happy for her achievement is an understatement! Encouraging swimmers of all abilities to take on daunting challenges with the support of friends is what it’s all about.
Event options:
Individual - 500m, 1.5km, 2.5km, 5km, triple 5km
Team - 1.5km, 2.5km, 5km
It’s still possible to take part in the virtual Swimathon or you can register your interest in 2027: https://www.swimathon.org/
